Portland Maine Open New Cruise Terminal and 2nd Cruise Berth

Portland Maine Cruise Terminal

9-14-2011 Portland's $6 million mega berth at the Ocean Gateway terminal, which accommodates larger cruise ships and commercial vessels, is now open. The mega-pier extension enables Portland to take two large ships alongside simultaneously.

The first ship to use what's known as Pier II was Enchantment of the Seas. Some of the ships expected to dock at the new facility include the Celebrity Summit, Jewel of the Seas, Carnival Glory, American Cruise Lines' Independence and Queen Elizabeth, will dock at the 1,200-foot-long pier today.

Portland is a popular cruise destination on Fall New England Canada cruises and is hoping to attract cruise ships during the spring and summer months.
